The Canada Pacific Railway's last spike was driven in 1885. It was meant to connect and unify a fledgeling nation, yet thanks in part to a number of factors including sheer geographical distance, the west coast continued to elude many Canadians East of Hudson Bay in the decades following. Over 130 years later we would again attempt to connect with British Columbians by train.
